Our Story

I moved from London in 1976 and arrived in Hermosa Beach. This was quite a contrast; the sophistication of Central London versus the kickback relaxed attitudes of the California Beach cities. I married Lisa in 1977; love at first site. We have lived, loved and worked together for 40 years. I met Robert Bell soon after arriving in the US and we became partners in 1982 at Chez Melange. Chez Melange was both our visions and even though I had a cooking background we made the decision that he would cook and I would serve. I love the business we are in. It is challenging and demanding but very satisfying; a business that keeps you on edge. My motto: “You are only as good as your last meal.”

Michael Franks is almost always there to greet you warmly.  Atmosphere is cozy and casual.  Food is always tasty and of high quality at a reasonable price.  Their beef dip is amazing and their fresh seafood cart with hamachi, oysters and shrimp is fantastic.  A true neighborhood gem!

Well Michael and Robert have done it again, at a time when most resist change, they forge ahead making waves along the way...a new, not to be missed concept has emerged inside of Chez Melange called Sea Change...the menu features numerous fresh fish entrees and starters, and wow are they terrific...everything from raw bar features to several fresh fish of the day selections, with your choice of preparation style, sauces and sides.

Sea Change is the most spectacular seafood restaurant in the South Bay! My husband and I are longtime customers of Chez Melange. We are thrilled that finally we have a great seafood restaurant in my neighborhood! The staff is friendly and welcoming they always make us feel right at home EVERY time.We are a big fans of the owner Michael Frank and his Pinot Noir (Frank and Bell). The barramundi and the clam chowder was out of this world.  Even the simple baguette is a must . I highly recommend this restaurant.
